Steel Bridge

Every year, the American Society of Engineers and the American Institute of Steel Construction holds the student steel bridge competition. The University of Alaska Fairbanks has traditionally been a strong competitor.  Most recently, in 2012 UAF took second place overall and first place in stiffness and aesthetics in the Pacific Northwest Conference, and tenth nationally.

In 2011, UAF took first place in the conference and seventh nationally. In 2009, UAF took first place in the conference and eighth nationally.  In 2007, UAF hosted the competition and in lieu of building a bridge, the students created innovative testing equipment that accurately and quickly tested each steel bridge.

2013 Steel Bridge team is already beginning the design process! If you’re interested in participating in the 2013 steel bridge team, contact either Tripp Collier at jmcollieriii@alaska.edu or Will Riley at wgriley@alaska.edu.

If you are interested in donating to this year’s Steel Bridge Team you can do so by following this link to the UAF giving page: http://www.uaf.edu/giving/gift/giving-form/
